Okay, if we’re honest, we aren’t planning any personal trips to the United States at the moment. And it is completely due to the current Canadian to American dollar exchange rate, which is the lowest it’s been since 2004. Yikes!

One over-the-border destination we would usually visit several times a year is gorgeous Seattle. We LOVE Seattle. But that said, until the dollar bucks up (pun intended), we will be staying close to home.

Fairmont Olympic Hotel Seattle’s luxurious grande dame, the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, is hoping to combat this issue with an exclusive stay offer, specifically for their neighbours to the north. During the month of March, visitors coming from Canada can book rooms (available for stays through June) at the equivalent rate in CAD to USD, allowing Canadians to book at an “at-par” rate. Reservations can be made by calling 206-621-1700, by email, or online. Note: a valid I.D. with place of residence will be required at check-in.

And if you’re a fan of the Seattle Premium Outlets, from now until the end of June you’ll receive exclusive discounts from over 30 stores—like 7 For All Mankind, Calvin Klein, Columbia Sportswear, Guess, Levi’s Outlet Store, and Nine West—with their “Show Your Canadian Passport and Save” promotion, where Canadians can show their residential identification and receive exclusive discounts.

Who’s going to make a trip to Seattle now?
