Enjoy spa treatments without the guilt through Yorkville’s 7th Beautylicious

If you live in Toronto, the next couple of weeks are an exciting time for beauty enthusiasts.  That’s right, from October 22 to November 1, 2015, Yorkville is hosting it’s 7th annual Beautylicious event — think of it as Winterlicious, but a chance to beautify yourself instead of satisfying your tummy.

Local spa, beauty, and health and wellness businesses will offer a specially priced packages — not available at any other time during the year — in order to gain new clients and promote their offerings. Services are offered in four different price points: $30, $50, $75, and $125, and are grouped into hair, spa, skin, and health and wellness categories.

I was given the opportunity to try out two amazing facials, both were unique in their offerings and show the amount of dedication each business owner puts into each appointment they book with their clients. Here’s where I visited to get Beautylicious:

Beautylicious On-the-go facial, $30 for 30 minutes ($55 value)
Pure and Simple Yorkville
Although this is marketed as a mini-facial for when you are short on time, there is nothing about this facial that feels rushed at all!

Upon entering into the treatment room, I felt totally relaxed. With the dim lighting, already dark walls, relaxing music, and heated bed to lay back on during the treatment, I was immediately transferred into a zen-like state that simply intensified as the minutes passed.

During the facial, Pure and Simple products were used, which are 100 per cent natural and inspired by Indian ayurvedic practices. The facial included an intense hydrating mask and a facial massage, along with a shoulder and upper back massage and a dreamy scalp massage. My therapist also added on the signature oxygen treatment (this can be added on to any facial at Pure and Simple) to my facial since my skin was dehydrated.

At the end of my facial, I was given two product recommendations based on the needs my therapist saw in my skin: the borage eye cream that is perfect for sensitive eyes (seriously, it actually works) and camellia oil for me to use at night under my serum to pump up moisture levels in my skin.

Deep Sea Purifying Facial, $50 for 60 minutes ($95 value!)
Caryl Baker Visage
Known as the face experts, Caryl Baker Visage, located in the Holt Renfrew Centre, specializes in everything for the face including facials, teeth whitening, lash extensions, ear piercing and brows.

I was excited to experience the deep sea-purifying facial, as I mentioned that I suffered from congestion caused by my menstrual cycle. The treatment was customized to my skin type, so Kyla Garritano, the amazing face specialist (and owner), chose to use an organic line on my skin, due to my skin sensitivity. The line includes an organic, spirulina toner, a fermented tea kumbucha cleanser, the eye light serum and a peptide based serum.

After the initial cleansing step, an enzymatic peel was applied to my face to slough off any dead skin cells, so that the deep-sea mask that was applied after would be able to fully absorb into my skin. Unlike other masks, the deep-sea mask that contains Dead Sea minerals to alleviate skin congestion was also applied over my eyes. Due to the cooling effect of the mask, this helped to give my eyes an extra lift and get rid of puffiness, so amazing! The facial also included a very relaxing massage for my shoulders, neck and décolleté. Throughout the entire facial, Kyla carefully explained what the facial did for my skin, so that I came out with useful information to help my skin care regimen at home. After the facial was over, Kyla applied a light day makeup look consisting of a BB Cream to protect my skin from UV rays alongside some blush, bronzer and mascara.

Expect to carve out an hour and 20 minutes if you want to unwind completely during the treatment. But if you are on your lunch hour, the same facial can be done within an hour without skipping any steps. For the best results, clients are asked to return for a facial every four to six weeks, unless they are on a special preventative program for a big day like a party or wedding, in which case, facials every 14 days are recommended to alight with the skin cell turnover rate.

So there you have it, both of my facial experiences were unique in their benefits, but were absolutely amazing! I cannot wait to take advantage of more of the other services, such as the relaxing Salt Cave at the Windsor Arms Hotel’s Spa!
