I Took Viviscal For 6 Months and This Is What Happened

Viviscal Hair Nourishment System

My name is Lesley Mirza and I have thinning hair. ūüôĀ

Bad hair

I could blame¬†my “mane” challenge on genetics (my mother has very fine, thinning hair); I could blame it on my bout of uterine cancer in 2008; Or,¬†my thinning hair condition¬†could just be the way it is, with nothing¬†or no one¬†to blame. Whatever the reason, I, of course, wanted to try and fight it.

When I was approached by Viviscal at the beginning of this year and asked if I’d like to test-drive their highly talked about hair growth supplement for six months, I immediately said “YES!” Hello, who wouldn’t want to try it?

In March, I posted about my hair hopes and dreams, and how I prayed that Viviscal would produce the¬†luscious locks I longed for — I’ve been pining for a glossy lob (long bob)¬†for ages.

What is Viviscal?

For several years, celebrities such as Liv Tyler, Reese Witherspoon and Mila Kunis have been raving about this 100 percent drug-free, hair-transforming product. But what is Viviscal?

Reese Witherspoon MTV Movie Awards
Viviscal is a natural-based oral supplement that has been specially formulated to tackle the problem of hair loss/thinning hair. The key ingredient is AminoMar C Рa rich protein compound of marine extracts, along with a natural form of silica (from Horsetail extract) and vitamin C (from Acerola Cherry). Viviscal works from within, nourishing the hair follicles naturally and the efficacy of Viviscal has been documented in 7 published scientific studies.

Viviscal works in four stages over a six-month period (although most people will notice a difference after just 3-4 months, in line with the natural hair growth cycle).

Stage 1: Nourishes the hair follicles.
Stage 2: Strengthens and promotes the growth of existing hair.
Stage 3: Promotes the growth of existing hair where it has slowed down or temporarily stopped. These hairs can be thin and wispy at first.
Stage 4: Hair becomes stronger, healthier and more vibrant.

Recommended daily intake: Take 2 tablets daily for a minimum of 3-6 months (one in the morning and one in the evening taken with water after food). Thereafter, to maintain healthy hair growth take 1-2 tablets daily as required. Viviscal contains fish proteins and is therefore not advisable for those allergic to fish or seafood, pregnant or breastfeeding women.

My Viviscal Journey

I am notorious for forgetting to take medication, so I was a tad concerned that I would indeed forget to take these supplements. My plan was to take one with breakfast and the other with dinner – how hard could that be to remember?

Yes, I did miss¬†taking a¬†few tablets in the first¬†two weeks, but then I got into the habit. (Note:¬†Setting out your tablets the night before, putting post-it notes¬†on your fridge, or using your iPhone’s alarm to schedule taking you tablets are all great reminders.)

Of course, I wanted to see results immediately — I’m an impatient kinda gal. But with almost any product…it takes time to work.

After approximately three months, I noticed that a bald spot I had by my forehead was beginning to fill in! I couldn’t believe it. And, I was pretty sure that I was losing less hair in the shower after each hair cleansing.

At four months, I had to get a trim, due to the mullet-esque hairstyle that was happening. I really didn’t want to cut my hair, but my trusted hairdresser thought it was a good idea to get my mane shaped into a more¬†agreeable look. She was right.

At six months, I was thrilled to see my hair looking waaayyy thicker and fuller, and it was growing at the speed of light — or so it seemed!

I did not encounter any side effects — ¬†I had read online rumours that Viviscal caused weight gain and acne. I actually thought my skin was looking¬†even better than normal during my Viviscal journey, and if I did put on a pound (or three), it was most certainly not from the supplements, but rather, due to my love of sweet treats!

Another added bonus I experienced while taking Viviscal: My nails are super-strong and grow like weeds! Yay!

I can report that I am a very satisfied Viviscal customer.

Though my six-month Viviscal journey has come to an end, I feel that I would benefit switching over¬†to the maintenance dose, which is one tablet a day — my new goal is to achieve some fab length. Bring on the lob!

Viviscal is available at Shoppers Drug Mart and online at www.viviscal.ca. The cost is $59.99 for a box of 60 tablets.

  • I thought your hair looked good before, but it looks great now … definitely much fuller! I have been going back and forth with the idea of trying Viviscal. It is a bit expensive for my budget. But your experience certainly makes me more inclined to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

  • First of all, your hair was thick to begin with, just a bad old-fashioned cut.
The “after” look is a much nicer cut, colour and obviously professionally blow dried and styled, maybe with extensions or even a wig.
    Come on!!

  • Hi and thanks for your comment. Seriously, I was not wearing a wig – both pics are of me with my real hair. – Lesley

  • I’ve been taking it for more than six months and notice that my hair grows in length quickly but not filling in. I did just have surgery again and am shedding quite a bit of hair right now. I do have to say that I’ve only been taking one pill a day because I forget to take the second. I will set a reminder on my phone and take two a day. I had hair transplant surgery at the front top part of my head. Very expensive but I’m losing other hair and had a reaction of some sort after having my hair colored for the first time after surgery. I say some of the follicles fell out of course Bosley says different. But you can now see thru my hair as if I didn’t have the surgery at all. Very upsetting as I have to Make a $200 payment for another 18 months. This is why I bought ,Viviscal. I will document my journey. My hair is very thin. To the point I don’t go underwater anywhere without having to wear something on my head. The ladies on the infomercial do not have the problem that I have. They have small areas that are thin at the temples and they don’t really show someone with thinning hair all over. The editor of this article had great hair to begin with. No visible bald spots. I will start my Viviscal trial again. I have two boxes of supplements and found you can buy at drug store for a lot less. So if I continue I will buy locally.

  • I have taken Viviscal religiously since October 2015. At first, my hair got thicker, shinier, and the little baby hair I had lost, around my forehead and temples, had slowly grown back. But suddenly, my hair went to being thin, and I lost all that baby hair that had grown back. I never stopped taking Viviscal during this whole time. Any idea why?

  • Hi Gina, Please find below a response from Viviscal to your comment above. Please let us know if you have any further questions or comments.

There are many factors that influence healthy hair. These encompass a wide range of medical, emotional and lifestyle conditions that can prevent the body from effectively absorbing the essential nutrients it needs to support healthy hair. These include ‚Äď hormonal changes (particularly after childbirth or the menopause), stress and anxiety, poor diet, excessive hair treatments, medication. Whatever the cause, and whatever the degree of change, the hair has the propensity to naturally re-grow, but often not without the right nutrition and Viviscal provides the required specialised nutrients to support healthy hair growth. We would recommend that you visit your doctor to see if there is any underlying cause for your hair thinning.

  • While the after photos look really nice, a large part of that seems that she put curl into her hair to show a fuller appearance – Not trying to be mean, but if your before photos show straight hair, your after photos should also be of straight hair

  • I just began taking Visvical . My daughter swears by it. I’ve only been taking it for 2 weeks.

My hair has been doing very poorly . It had gotten brittle & would not grow. I will keep everyone posted on the progress if any

  • Hi from Tennessee…I’m at the Viviscal 2 month mark and have noticed my hair is oily at the scalp but the ends are still dry and wispy…is this a normal side effect? I really want to keep taking this product but can’t get over my greasy hair😩 Help!!

  • Hi,

Your hair looks amazing. I need help. I started taking Viviscal religiously for ten days last month but had to stop because the iron was giving me diarrhea. But I noticed my hair was benefitting even after I had stopped. I started taking it again for two days but the side effects from the iron is unbearable. What should I do? Wpuld taking just one tablet be beneficial and stop the side effects? Thank you!

  • I have a wig that looks identical to the “after” picture by your editor. I’m sorry but I’m really not convinced it’s her hair. That would be a miracle. I would love, really love, to try the product but at 72 and sole income of social security just can’t afford to try and achieve results shown of your editor. I try not to look in the mirror at myself it’s so bad. Good luck to all of you who do use it or thinking about using it.

  • Started vivisical 2 months ago ,my hair had gone much thinner ,is much more delicate than what it was and I am shedding more since using vivisical ,I have stopped using it now ,I am so annoyed as I have spent about 130 on the tablets ,shampoo and serum ,complete waste of money!
