Diane von Furstenberg for Gap

By Doris Montanera

We never talk about kids’ clothes, but Gap’s Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) line for little fashionistas is too sweet to resist.

U.S.-based Furstenberg, best-known for popularizing jersey wrap dresses in the early ’70s, is the latest in the designer-retail chain collaborations blooming this spring.

You’ll find the spirit of DVF in everything from summer staples such as shorts, capris and swimwear to cotton shifts in eyelet or layers of cotton voile, and high-waist versions of her iconic wrap dresses in structured, printed cotton, with daisy applique details.

An adorable navy-stripe seersucker blazer with Furstenberg’s mantra “Love is Life” on the crest is lined in a pink-and-grey DVF Gap-motif that also adorns t-shirts, tanks, leggings, sunhats, beach bags, sunglasses, and flip-flops, espadrilles, sandals and high-tops.

The line, in playful green, pink, blue and yellow floral prints, including her vintage hibiscus and leaf motifs, spans ages newborn to 14. Prices range from an affordable $18 for a rattle to $123 for a diaper bag, giving posh, pint-size peeps a taste of designer fashion at a young age.

This is only the second GapKids collaboration. The first was with British designer Stella McCartney in 2009.

The DVF collection launches online ( and in select Canadian Gap stores March 15, 2012.
