This past March, Lipstick Powder N Paint was in attendance at LG Fashion Week and watched as Canada’s top designers hit the runway with their Fall/Winter collections. And, because we’re all about beauty, we decided to pop backstage and ask Lead Hair Artist for LG Fashion Week Beauty by L’Oréal Paris, Eric Del Monaco, what the Fall hair trends were.
“A lot of big shapes and updos, which is a change from the last couple of years where we saw low styled pony tails,” he says. “This time everything is going back up but with huge shapes and textures. Definitely classic styles but done in a more updated version.” A great way to update a classic hair style, Del Monaco shared with us, is to add a bit of volume at the crown by teasing the hair to give it a bit of a lift and some playful edginess.
Inspired by the chic city landscapes, Del Monaco says these looks are just as easy to recreate at home. “It’s all about urban beauty, structure, architecture, so just like when you build a house you have to have a foundation, and this is what we’re doing with the hair. With some looks we’ll build a big ball shape and then pile the hair on top in all sorts of different waves and curls. It’s really easy to do at home because it doesn’t have to be refined. It’s ok if it isn’t as polished as past seasons.”
Del Monaco’s suggestions for achieving runway-worthy hair: always make sure it’s in great condition, not dehydrated and use shampoos and conditioners made for your particular hair type. And always keep a good can of hairspray nearby—his favourite, L’Oréal Paris Elnet Satin. “Look for a good workable hairspray that still provides a firm hold.”
