Her name may not be familiar to you, but if you have gone to see the recently released feature film “Watchmen,” you’ve seen Apollonia Vanova. She plays a slightly evil character by the name of Silhouette. In addition to being a superhero, Vanova is a sculptor, opera singer and fitness model. Is there anything this gal can’t do?
Lipstick Powder N Paint caught up with Vanova to find out how she does it all.
How did you get into acting?
I was modeling when I came to BC but there was not much work, so my agent sent me out on an acting audition. It was my first audition ever for the role of a fashion model. Pretty straight forward – I thought. When it was over the casting director called my agent and said that I certainly looked the role but was a horrible actress. That day I signed up for acting lessons, and the rest is history.
What do you love doing the most? Acting, singing or sculpting?
Acting. The best part is going for auditions because it gives me the most freedom. I have full control over how my character will be portrayed including make up, wardrobe and mannerism.
What has been your favourite role to date?
Silhouette in “Watchmen.” Although it was not a big role, Zack Snyder gave me the freedom to portray her as I imagined her. The costume was absolutely fabulous, the make up was flawless, the atmosphere was perfect and the director was inspiring. I was also asked to improvise a scene for “Under the Hood” – a short film documenting the Minutemen – what freedom, what fun!
