Lipstick Lit: The Friday Night Knitting Club

Friday, August 8th, 2008

The Friday Night Knitting ClubKate Jacob’s debut novel is a wonderful tale of women from all walks of life, coming together to enjoy a common hobby – knitting.

We love Georgia Walker, the feisty main character who runs a successful yarn store in Manhattan’s Upper Westside, Walker and Daughter, and is single-handedly raising her daughter, Dakota.

Georgia is surrounded by a diverse group of gals that you will enjoy getting to know: Anita, her friend and mentor; Cat, her old school pal; K.C., her past co-worker; Peri, her employee; and Lucie and Darwin, knitting club regulars. You never realize how important friends are - until something terrible happens.

And of course, there has to be a love interest. James is the ex and father of Dakota, who ran off when Georgia was pregnant. Now many years later, James has decided he wants back in the picture.

Whether you are a knitter or not, this book is addictive and you won’t want to put it down. We warn you that you may need a box of Kleenex on hand.

On a side note: we understand from IMDB that this book is set to be made into a movie and is scheduled to release in 2010.

J. Chew PorcelainNo girl should wait until she’s married to have lovely china tableware, especially when J. Chew Porcelain tableware is now available.

Designer Jaimie Chew, influenced by her Malaysian homeland, time spent in China and France and her current NYC residence, has designed memorable graphic patterns and placed them in glorious shades of red, green, blue, brown, pink and lavender on French Limoges porcelain. Each plate, cup and saucer is handcrafted, with all designs applied by hand. Each of the five patterns features a dinner plate, salad plate, bread and butter plate, teacup and saucer or you can purchase a five place setting. From the traditional Arabesque pattern, available in earthy Arabian Spice, red Hibiscus or Bluemarine, the bold floral and circular Lotus Pavillion pattern in turquoise or tangerine, to the playful Shangrila pattern with a butterfly, lotus flowers, fish or toad in apple green or ecru, Chew’s designs incorporate influences from India, Arab and Egyptian cultures.

J. Chew Porcelain encourages us girls to have a swish dinner party, even if our version of cooking entails calling our fave take out dining establishment.

Xcase Mini from HeysWith all of the hubbub at the airports these days who feels like flying anywhere? Check this, don’t check that, carry on, not a carry on - who knows anymore? Well don’t put that passport on ice just yet. Heys Luggage has come out with a new xcase Mini, a smaller version of the ever-so popular xcase. The xcase Mini comes in bold bright colours and features LED lights within its wheels, so everyone will know to stand aside when you’re racing to catch that last minute flight to Paris.

The 18” mini - perfect for those stringent carry on restrictions - has the same features as the original xcase, with it’s curved handle, internal divider, glossy surface and it’s the world’s lightest at less than five pounds.

We suggest packing only the bare essentials. Happy traveling!
